When You Let Go, You Become Free

I’ve just returned from the Blue Mountains facilitating a Shamanic Medicine Retreat.

3 days, and a willingness to dive deep.

I am always surprised and humbly reminded every single retreat group that transformation and healing is not complete alone.

The Power of the Collective Field

There is a reason I love retreat work.

Not just because of being out in nature, or the medicine and the deliciously catered food,

but because something happens in a group that cannot happen in isolation.

Lynne McTaggart, in her book, The Power of Eight, demonstrated through intention experiments that when groups of 8 or more people come together with a shared focus, healing outcomes significantly amplify…

and not just for the receiver, but for everyone in the group.

This is the law of resonance.

In physics, resonance occurs when one vibrating system influences another to oscillate at a greater amplitude.

In simple terms:

when one person shifts, it creates a ripple effect that benefits everyone.

With 16 people in the room this weekend including facilitators, it was magnified even more so.

What We Witnessed

While doing energy work in the space while the group was deep in ceremony, I was moved to tears this weekend…

at people meeting hidden parts of themselves that was so honest and raw.

There were moments of old traumas resurfacing in beautiful moments of release,

intergenerational wounds courageously processed for the sake of the entire lineage,

old grief stories finally let go of after years of holding on,

and people reconnecting to emotions they had disconnected from many years of not feeling them.

The Body is a Time Capsule

Modern science is now catching up to what indigenous traditions have always known.

Through epigenetics, we understand that we don’t just inherit genes…

we inherit emotional imprints.

When your grandmother was pregnant with your mother, the egg that became you was already present in her body.

Three generations in one field.

In the shamanic traditions, we even talk about at the very least 7 generations of stories are present in your energy field.

This means that what your lineage experienced,

fear, survival, grief, resilience,

is stored in your nervous system.

When you have that inexplicable feeling of doom and gloom, it actually did not start with you.

And yet… you are the one given the opportunity to transform it for all those who came before you.

The Emotional System: A Forgotten Intelligence

Psychology identifies core human emotions such as:

• Joy

• Sadness

• Anger

• Fear

• Love

• Disgust

• Surprise

We forget that calm only can happy when we have a healthy emotional system that is willing to feel fully.

That is how we detox and flow.

This weekend, some participants were just beginning to soften their defences just to learn how to feel again.

Others moved through full emotional catharsis, crying, releasing and reclaiming their truth.

And what happens when we allow this?

Freedom.

Not conceptual freedom, but embodied freedom.

In the chakra anatomy, the emotional kosha (layer) of your energy body actually is the interface between your vitality and ability to access higher spiritual states that invite vision and the perception of energy flowing through the body.

Without the flow of emotions, your energy system actually feels like shrink wrap.

The Brain, the Body, and New Pathways

Neuroscience calls this the Default Mode Network (DMN)…

the set of patterns your brain runs on repeat.

These are your habits.

Your reactions.

Your unconscious loops.

When we engage in deep somatic and ceremonial work, something powerful happens:

We interrupt the pattern.

Research into neuroplasticity shows that when the brain is exposed to novel, emotionally charged experiences, it can rewire itself, forming new neural pathways.

Think of it like this:

Your brain is a map of well-worn roads.

Shamanic work doesn’t just walk the old roads differently,

it creates entirely new routes.

And this is why people feel different afterwards.

Not because they “understood” something new,

but because they become something new.

Youthfulness Is Not Age — It’s Adaptability

One thing I’ve always noticed about my teachers:

They are in their 70s…

and they look like they’re in their 40s.

Why?

Because they are not rigid.

They are emotionally fluid.

They process.

They release.

They adapt.

Longevity is not just physical.

It is energetic.

When we suppress emotion, we create toxicity.

When we express and move it, we renew.

If you find yourself stuck in patterns…

If you feel like you’re at a crossroads…

If you know something needs to shift, but you don’t know how…

Then it may not be a thinking problem.

It may be a feeling problem.

We are not broken.

We are patterned.

And patterns can change.

When you change the pattern,

you change your life.

If you feel the call to step into something deeper
